Empowering Menstrual Wellbeing in Bakhang nunnery, Sindhupalchowk

Nuns in remote nunneries face challenges in accessing comprehensive education on menstrual health management. This is primarily due to the stigma and taboos surrounding menstruation, which frequently result in avoidance and silence regarding the topic. Acknowledging this significant gap, Drokpo and Drokmo joined forces to deliver a vital course focused on providing the nuns with essential knowledge and awareness about menstrual hygiene management.

At Bakhang Nunnery, we co-facilitated a two-day menstrual health education course. Initiating discussions during the program posed initial challenges, as many nuns felt uncomfortable addressing their menstrual cycles. This discomfort stemmed from their lack of basic education on this natural aspect of life. Unfortunately, menstruation is often perceived through a lens of stigma and viewed as unclean.

One of the workshop's primary objectives was to dismantle the social taboos surrounding menstruation and promote open dialogue. To facilitate this, our team placed a high priority on establishing a comfortable, safe, and supportive environment. Through interactive sessions, the nuns gradually opened up and gained a deeper understanding that menstruation is a natural process, dispelling myths and misconceptions.

Drokpo aims to normalize discussions about menstruation and empower nuns with the necessary tools to manage their menstrual health.
